Tales and Twangs Bruce Walker (Storyteller) & Phil Weaver (Guitar)
Tales and Twangs is storyteller Bruce Walker and classical guitarist Phil Weaver. They just started working together and the audience response has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic. Bruce and Phil swap stories with music as well as perform together. A high point of the show is Bruce's Civil War story from his own family's history accompanied by Phil playing Jay Ungar's Ashokan Farewell. The stories range from hysterically funny to poignant, and Phil's guitar solos include tango, flamenco, Bach, and even Mason Williams' hit Classical Gas. The repartee between Phil and Bruce is spot on-they play very well off of each other. Imagine having a Prairie Home Companion style show in your living room or on your front porch- that's what Tales and Twangs is like, fast paced and funny but also relevant.
Fast paced and off the wall, Bruce's stories delight and entertain, while slipping you a to-go box of memories to munch on later. Bruce Walker has performed on NPR and many prestigious venues here and overseas. His spoken word CD was on the Grammy ballot and his civil war story is archived at the Library of Congress. He has also performed for the Farmer's Opry, the University of Alabama, and Georgia Public Radio.
Phil Weaver was the first guitarist to be awarded an Artists' fellowship by the Alabama State Council of the Arts and his CD with pianist Ingrid von Spakovsky on ACA Digital was critically acclaimed and has been broadcast on WNYC in New York City, WABE Atlanta, and WRTI Philadelphia. He performs in a variety of settings, one season he played the guitar part for Mahler's 7th Symphony with the Louisiana Philharmonic and a month later played tango music for the Pyro Pixies, two young ladies who performed a fire-eating routine at the Flying Monkey. He was later busted by the fire marshal in Cullman with one of the fire-eaters and had to perform that routine on the sidewalk in December. As you can see, these two boys ain't right!

Reviews: Phil Weaver and Bruce Walker put on the near perfect show. It was a great night of really great stories by Bruce, a consummate southern storyteller, and awesome guitar by Phil who several months ago wasn't sure he would ever play again after an accident. The audience loved it, the kids were captivated. The mix of great stories told with passion and great guitar played with passion was unmatchable tonight. — Bob Keefe
Tales and Twangs is sure to be a fun time for any audience! Where else can you hear classical guitar and a storyteller? The audience raved about the variety and the chemistry among the performers. I think Phil and Bruce have a hit on their hands. — Emily Jones, Princess Theatre
That is AWESOME!! Really amazing visuals, cool piece, and fantastic playing. That director did a wonderful job; super-high level of creativity and quality. I loved all of it, but i think my favorite shot was that extreme slo-mo of the 6th string vibrating: Wow! Great work again! Man, LAGQ needs to have something like this! Does this guy ever film in LA? — Bill Kanengiser of the Grammy-award winning group Los Angeles Guitar Quartet
